Let’s face it, most big banks disappoint more than they deliver. They have crappy customer service, ridiculous fees, low deposit rates, high credit card rates and high loan rates. But Star One Credit Union is different. They hired us to do a complete visual and strategic rebrand and subsequent go-to-market ad campaign. We revamped their logo and visual look, and helped clarify their messaging with a focus on playfully poking at how bad the big bank experience is and how they offer a refreshing alternative. The ad campaign is anchored by a fictitious 5th-century warlord named Ragnar the Terrible, who interviews for jobs at the big banks because he is a notorious inflictor of pain—and so are they.
